Mom and daughter catch a big one

We spent a morning down at Topaz Lake last week trolling in the boat. We were going a little faster than normal and had only been out about 15 minutes when Jenee asked if she could hold onto my pole. I said, "Sure," and handed it to her. It wasn't 30 seconds later and she said, "Mom, I've got a fish."

I explained how it was just the action of the lure on the line but she insisted on handing the pole back to me to reel in. Well, it felt like a tree trunk but I reeled it in to take a look. It didn't feel like a fish, but it was hard to reel in. When it got to the side of the boat my dad said, "Lisa, it is a fish."

It was the largest, not in weight, but in length, we'd ever pulled out of the lake. It had pink meat too, so it was a native trout, yummy. Good job, Jenee! I'm going to bring Jenee fishing more often.

While we were pulling back toward the boat ramp we saw seven pelicans lined up in a row toward the ramp, which is where lots of baby fish hang out. According to the Wikipedia encyclopedia, they line up like that to chase schools of small fish into shallow water and then just scoop them up in their large pouch under their beak. They were so neat to look at all together. Did you know that some pelican species can weigh as much as 33 pounds and have a wing span of nearly 11 and a half feet? I wonder how much fish a pelican that size would eat a day.

Rummage sale

It's that time of year again for the St. Gall Rummage Sale coming this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3 and 4.

I spent one whole weekend cleaning out all of our closets and dressers. I bagged up 18 large trash bags to donate "to the cause." They were full of blankets, clothes, shoes, toys, videos, books, even a bicycle. I also spent one morning helping other volunteers sorting other donated items. Wow, did they collect a lot of things.

I'll be there early Friday morning to stand in line for a couple of things that caught my eye. Hope to see you there.

New grandbabies

Congratulations to the Hoyt family and the Posselt family who had new grandbabies born this month. That is wonderful!
