The R-C Morning Report

It looks like the forest survived the night with only a couple of lightning caused fires popping up in Alpine County near Markleeville. Hand crews and a helicopter are making progress on dousing those blazes, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. A fire caused by a downed power line on Kingsbury Thursday afternoon is all but out and the Industrial fire in Mound House is expected to be contained by 6 p.m. today.

The weather won't exactly be cooperating as there is a 30 percent chance for more thunderstorms tonight through Saturday. Clouds will start to gather at about 1 p.m. and build from there. The storm should clear by 9 p.m. Saturday and leave us with isolated thunderstorms on Sunday. The high temperature on Saturday will pass 90. On the good side, by Tuesday high temperatures will cool down into the low 80s.

But enough doom and gloom, this weekend is the wettest of the big events to occur in June with the annual Kids' Fishing Derby at Lampe Park. The event is free, but people have to register their kids to get in. There are some spots left on Sunday, I'm told. Tonight is Douglas High School's Powder Puff football game. Watch this and then come talk to me about the gentler gender.
