(Rick) Hallert
1941-2007
A celebration of life is 11:30 a.m. Monday at Summit Christian Church, 7075 Pyramid Highway, Sparks, for Fredrick Carl (Rick) Hallert, 65.
Mr. Hallert died June 4, 2007, with his family present at Renown Medical Center, Reno.
Hallert was born on June 6, 1941, in Glendale, Calif., and was a war hero who served two tours in Vietnam, where he earned the Bronze Star for heroism. After retiring, Hallert moved to Topaz Lake and worked for more than 20 years at the Topaz Lodge & Casino, as the slot manager. His energy and candid personality won him the respect and admiration of his co-workers.
After moving to Sparks in 2001, Hallert worked as a slot route supervisor at United Coin where he made many great friends. Hallert was an avid fisherman and hunter. He landed the catch-of-a-lifetime (a 42-pound king salmon) in September 2006, at the Rouge River in Oregon. It was on this trip, that he earned the title of the "The Salmon Slayer" from his friends. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Hallert is preceded in death by his father Fredrick, his mother Connie, and his brother Gerald. He is survived by his wife Lillian; sons Michael, Ricky, Chris, Chad, and Jerel; four daughters-in-law, and 10 grandchildren.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Funeral Home in Reno.
