A memorial service is 10 a.m. Sunday at Douglas High School for Joshua Robert Rodgers, Feb. 17, 1978-May 30, 2007, a Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the U.S. Army. While in Afghanistan fighting for our freedom his CH47 Chinook helicopter was shot down.
He was born in Sun Valley, Calif., on Feb. 17, 1978, to Dan and Debbie Rodgers.
He lived in Carson City most his life. He attended Carson High School his freshmen year and then completed his high school days at Douglas High School.
Prior to graduating high school in 1997 he signed up through the delayed entry program to join the U.S. Army.
He met and later married his high school sweetheart Casey Lee Gilder on Oct. 18, 1997. He is a loving father, husband, son and friend.
He is survived by his wife Casey and three precious little girls - Madison, Autumn and Ashlyn; mother and stepfather, Debbie and Ben Walker; stepsister Jessica Walker; dad and stepmother Dan and Wanda Rodgers; two half brothers Matt and Jordan; a half-sister Sara; Aunt Susie and Uncle Mike McElfish and family; Uncle Ron Moshier; Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Kathy Moshier and family; Aunt Linda Moshier and family; and numerous relatives from the Rodgers, Walker and Gilder families.
He has a great military family that has loved and cared for not only him but his whole family. He was truly blessed by all who knew and loved him. But most of all, we were blessed by the presence of his life, family members said.
"God speed Ð go Army Ð hooah!" said his wife Casey.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Fitzhenry's Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
