A big splash and they were off in the 15th annual Wacky Waddler's Wiver Wace, the main fundraiser for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.
GE Energy won the business race, which consisted of 73 ducks. Sertoma took the organization race, which had 16 ducks competing.
In the public race, out of a field of almost 1,200 rubber ducks, Cameron Duffy won first place and tickets to Disneyland.
Lynette Gullion won second place and 18 holes of golf for two with a cart at Carson Valley Golf Course.
Third place and bowling coupons for Silver Strike Lanes went to Jocelyn Foster.
The $50 netted duck prize along with a bubble blower from Rite Aid, went to Paul and Vicki Kinnaman. The $15 prize along a $15 Bouquet & Bouquet gift certificate went to Mark Brewer, and the $10 "netted duck" prize paired with Lunch for 2 at Two Guys from Italy to Nancy Fife. The last place prize (movie passes thanks to Ironwood Cinema) was given to Lee Fairchild.
The Carson Valley Community Food Closet broke the $10,000 mark, allowing them to help even more families in the coming year.
Sponsors who provided prizes were: Carson Valley Golf Course, Silver Strike Lanes, Ironwood Cinema, Bouquet & Bouquet, Two Guys from Italy, Rite Aid, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Big George Ventures contributed all the rubber ducks for the wace.
Rubber ducks can be picked up at the Food Closet at 1255 Waterloo, Gardnerville, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday 1-4 pm.
