Thieves get $47,000 in furs

A Gardnerville woman reported her home was burglarized on Tuesday and someone took $47,000 in furs.

The home, in the 1400 block of Grendon Way, was entered through an open door. The furs included a mink, two beaver and two leopard-skin coats.

-- A $10,000 engagement ring was reported stolen sometime when it was being transported to Reno from Las Vegas, a Douglas County sheriff's deputy said.

The ring was being repaired through Oliver's Fine Jewelry by a goldsmith in Las Vegas. Due to time constraints, Greyhound shipping was used.

The goldsmith said he placed the ring in an envelope, folded it four times and placed it in an Altoids box. It was then placed in another envelope, then a plastic bag followed by a standard mason box. The ring was reported stolen May 30.

-- Douglas County Secret Witness is offering a $500 reward for information on a commercial burglary May 30 at Stiltz Tile, 2577 Nowlin Road, Minden.

Anonymity is assured and payment will be made in any manner the caller prefers.

The burglary reportedly took place in late evening or early morning hours of May 30. Anyone with information is asked to call Secret Witness at 782-7463 or 586-7295, or Douglas County sheriff's Investigator Jeff Schemenauer, 782-9909.
