Barbara Ann Billing


1933-2007


A funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville for Barbara Ann Billing, 73, who died June 11, 2007, at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City. Mrs. Billings was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Hollywood, Calif., to Donald Barkley and Mary Helen Peters. A resident of Minden for 19 years, she previously lived in Arcadia, Calif. She was a high school graduate and was married to William R. Billing. She was a homemaker and enjoyed painting, her garden, plants and had a green thumb.


She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by her husband William R. Billing of Minden; her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Pat Billing Jr. of Carlsbad, Calif.; daughter Cynthia Serles of Arcadia, Calif.; brother James Barkley of Las Vegas as well as three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Carson City. There will be a viewing today from 5-7 p.m. at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Burial will take place at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.




Elwood B. Davis


1910-2007


Elwood B Davis died May 22, 2007, at his home in Sierra Place, Carson City. He was born Oct. 24, 1910, in Roswell, N.M., which was a territory at that time. His parents were Herbert B. and Rosella M. (Bruner) Davis. Elwood was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Mae (Arnaud) and sister Audra Root.


Elwood served in WW II in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic gunner with the 398th Bombardment Group and was honorably discharged. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal with three oak leaf cluster, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Elwood was "recognized as having been the rallying factor of his crew. His coolness and mechanical skill have been displayed on more than one occasion," as written by Harry J Sleaman, 1st Lt., Air Corps, Airplane Commander in a letter dated Oct. 14, 1944. Elwood was considered a good luck charm by the crew, and if he didn't go, no one would go.


Elwood was an avid hunter and fisherman and a lifetime member of the NRA. He had visited Alpine County many years before he and his wife Mae moved to Markleeville in the mid-1970s and built their home. He served many years on the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission and was active in community affairs.


The Davises moved to Carson City in the late '80s where Elwood continued to be involved in his love of fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Ormsby Sportsman Association. To his dying day Elwood had a soft spot in his heart for Markleeville and always enjoyed visiting here.




Shirley A. Snider


1942-2007


A private family service will be at a later date for Shirley A. Snider, 64, who died June 9, 2007, in Gardnerville.


Mrs. Snider was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Townsend, Mont., to Frederick Barthule and Ida Campell. She graduated high school in Spokane, Wash. She married Arthur Snider, Sept. 3, 1982, in Maui, Hawaii. She was a resident of Gardnerville for five years and previously a resident of Reno. She was an administrator for the telephone company, volunteered for the lawyers of Washoe County, the Red Cross and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.


She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Arthur Snider of Gardnerville; her children, sons Monte Walker of Las Vegas, Lee Walker and Brian Walker, both of Lakewood, Calif.; stepsons Michael Snider of Riverside, Calif., John Snider of Corona, Calif., and stepdaughter Laurel Snider of Thousand Oaks, Calif., as well as 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden with cremation to take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.
