About $1,400 was raised at a carwash in the Stratton Center on Saturday for Jessica Vega, a 14-year Gardnerville resident who contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome on May 10.

Jessica's father, Dale Vega, said he had to work Saturday, but heard that people were paying up to $100 for a carwash.

"So many people are so generous," he said.

Friends of Jessica said her medical expenses are "exhorbitant," and are continuing to come in. Her symptoms include partial paralysis which requires physical therapy and ongoing medical treatment.

Dale Vega said his daughter is slowing getting better. They look for changes month to month, not daily. She is benefitting from the therapy, has been fitted with custom leg braces and her spirits are high.

"She's showing some improvement, but being her parents, it's not enough," he said.

Jessica's friends will next be hosting a spaghetti dinner and fundraiser to take place at Carson Valley Middle School Multi-Purpose Room on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. All proceeds from this event will also go to the Vega family for Jessica's care and expenses.

Tickets for the spaghetti feed are: General admission $10, 5 and younger $5, and a family ticket for $25.

There will also be a raffle and silent auction with items donated by local businesses.
