An Indian Hills man is expected to plead guilty to a drug charge in Douglas County District Court this morning. Casey Smith was originally facing a charge for trafficking after he was arrested in a drug raid in March. He was placed on house arrest while awaiting resolution of the charge and on May 30 was taken into custody for allegedly taking prescription medicine stolen from an acquaintance's grandmother.

Workers for the Minden Gardnerville Sanitation District were cleaning the lines a couple of weeks ago when they discovered someone dumped large chunks of asphalt down the manhole at County Road and Highway 88. The district manager said the last time the crew had been through the pipes was in the early 1990s. The chunks were 1-2 feet long, but hadn't blocked the pipe.

Not so much going on today, but on Wednesday, Genoa will be hopping with preparations for the Pony Express rider. The rider entered Nevada late Sunday night and is running ahead of schedule. The rider is expected to leave Carson City 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and be at Stateline by 12:30 p.m., but there is no telling when they'll be in Genoa except... morning.

High temperatures will peak today for a little while with a warm 93 predicted for Minden. There will be some relief when the winds come up this afternoon. Highs will drop back down to the 80s by the end of the week.
