A fuel truck lost its brakes and crashed into hangar doors at the Minden-Tahoe Airport just before noon Wednesday, sending one man to the hospital.
The driver of the fuel truck was pulling into the Soar Minden hangar when the brakes failed, causing the truck to hit several parked gliders, one of which spun around and hit an airport worker in the chest. The worker was transported by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
"It was a very slow-speed crash, about 5-10 mph," said Douglas County Sheriff's deputy Mike Helms. "The driver of the truck is OK and there was no fuel spill."
Driver Kevin Deane was bringing the truck to the hangar to fix the brakes. He pointed to the parts box on the passenger seat.
"I overshot the turn," Deane said. "It went left instead of right and kept chugging through the hangar. It's a diesel, it keeps going even after you shut it off."
The name or condition of the injured worker is not known at this time.
Nevada Highway Patrol commercial is investigating the crash. The accident does not affect the Wings of Change air show this weekend.
