Local theater group, the Dakota Organization, will be performing their first play of 2007, "Sylvia" by A.R. Gurney in July.
The Dakota Organization donates a portion of ticket sales from each production, most notably donating to the Alzheimer's Association. For this particular play, the Dakota Organization is also donating some proceeds to DAWG (Douglas Animal Welfare Group) in order to raise funds to help DAWG better the lives of animal in Douglas County.
"Sylvia" revolves around married couple Greg and Kate, who are dealing with the trials and tribulations of middle age now that their children are out of the house. Kate starts a new job as an English teacher in an inner city high school; meanwhile, Greg bonds with a dog named Sylvia and adopts her, much to the frustration of his wife. Greg's career and marriage begin to unravel the closer he gets to Sylvia, but through a series of humorous and heartfelt events, Kate and Greg both learn to compromise.
"Sylvia" stars Lucille Rao as Kate, Dakota Organization leader Dave Anderson as Greg, and Elizabeth Brissenden as Sylvia, as well as other Dakota Organization leader Teri Lynn and local actors Ed Scott and Diana Jones. The show is directed by Rod Hearn with assistant director James Scoggins. "Sylvia" opens July 20, 7 p.m. at the CVIC Hall on Esmeralda Avenue, Minden, and plays July 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. and 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors (55 and older) and youth (17 and younger).
