Officials are gearing up for a first-ever community barbecue and swap meet, slated for 11 a.m. Saturday at James Lee Park in Indian Hills.
The event is hosted by the Indian Hills General Improvement District which is providing the hot dogs, hamburgers and condiments. Participants may bring a favorite side dish.
Margarita Man will be whipping up the adult libations, but he's allegedly a whiz at those nonalcoholic margaritas, too. The Sierra Nevada Soccer Club will also be selling sodas and snowcones to raise money for insurance and uniforms for kids who can't afford to play.
The local rock band Sessions will be providing music and the kids' bounce house will be ready. Residents are invited to bring anything saleable to the swap meet, according to Indian Hills officials.
"We'll start setting up the swap meet spaces at about 9 a.m.," said Indian Hills General Manager Dennis Longhofer. "People should bring tables and whatever they have to barter."
When the feasting is over, Curves has set up a booth to help knock off those extra pounds.
The idea is the brainchild of Indian Hills Trustee Kathryn Clark-Ross, who said her inspiration came from a block party just down the street from her Indian Hills home.
She said she is dedicated to getting locals involved in their community and with each other and this is a way to get people together.
"I want this event to continue in the coming years, so it's important the first year is a success," she said. "We're expecting a good crowd."
