Today, firefighters expect to have a line all the way around a 45-acre fire burning near Indian Creek Reservoir, which forced the closure of Highway 89 between Woodfords and Markleeville for a short time Saturday morning.

About 210 firefighters are working on the Highway 89 fire, which started on private land early Saturday morning. The fire forced the main power line to Markleeville to be shut down for a time. Original estimates of 80 to 100 acres have been revised downward.

The Alpine County Airport is closed and is being used as a base for helicopters dropping water on the fire.

About 200 firefighters are battling the blaze, including seven handcrews and 11 engines.
