Coming off a second-place finish at the Susanville Summer Slam, the Carson Valley Hot Shots 12-under softball team claimed its fourth tournament championship in six tries this season, winning the Winnemucca Gold Rush Tournament over the weekend.
The Hot Shots opened with a 2-0 loss to the Reno Predators, but came back with a 13-1 win over the Winnemucca Gold Rush. Carson Valley later topped Elko 3-1.
On Sunday, the Hot Shots topped Elko again, this time 8-3, to advance to the tournament championship.
Facing the Reno Predators again, Carson Valley erased an early 2-0 deficit halfway through the game and put the game away in the finals innings for an 11-3 victory.
The Hot Shots got standout pitching all weekend from Kalee Duryee and Taylor McKinnon.
Those two switched in and out at first base as well to complete a defensive unit that allowed only eight runs in four games. The rest of the infield included second baseman Katie Kluever, shortstop Amanda Caras, third baseman Jenna Geyer, catcher Kelly Sonnemann and outfielders Emily Downer, Marlena Martin, Aaliyah Paxson, Madison Dunleavey, Mackenzie Parks and Illiana Brown.
Carson Valley will play in the Northern Nevada State Championships in Reno this weekend.
