Hoppe, Harper and Weaver make All-Sierra Nevada team

Editor's Note: Every season, the Sierra Nevada Media Group selects a postseason honors team that recognizes the top athletes from the newspapers we cover. Athletes eligible are from schools regularly covered by the Nevada Appeal, Tahoe Daily Tribune, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News, North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and Sierra Sun.




Heather Mathews, Fernley - The senior led Fernley to the NIAA 3A State title. On the mound, she was 19-1 with a 1.24 earned run average with 105 strikeouts and just eight walks. She also hit 528.


Nikki Keller, Carson - An All-Sierra League first team pick, Keller was 11-3 with a 1.72 earned run average. Offensively, she hit .309 with three home runs, four doubles and 20 RBI.


Cassi Vondrak, Carson - An all-league second team pick, Vondrak went 12-3 with a 1.68 E.R.A. Offensively, she hit .388 with six home runs, one double, two triples and 25 RBI.


Dacey Hassey, Carson - Arguably the best defensive catcher in the North, Hassey was an all-league second team pick despite putting up monster numbers. Hassey will play softball at Santa Barbara City College. She hit .557 with an .807 slugging percentage. She was 49-for-88 with 32 runs, three home runs, three triples, seven doubles and 32 RBI.


Christa Casci, Carson - An all-league first team pick, Casci hit .398 (39-for-98) with three home runs, three doubles, two triples, 32 runs and 22 RBI.


Kaitlin Burroughs, Carson - An all-league first team pick, Burroughs hit .418 with 33 hits, one home run, four doubles, four triples, 35 runs,18 RBI and a .608 slugging percentage. Burroughs was also an outstanding defensive centerfielder.


Lauren Hoppe, Douglas - She had 14 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 45 RBI. The junior has been an all-league first team pick for all three years she's played.


Emily Weaver, Douglas - An all-league first team pick, Weaver had six doubles, six triples and 32 RBI.


Stephanie Harper, Douglas - Her seven complete games in three days in the Northern 4A playoffs helped the Tigers finish as the zone-runner up behind eventual state champion Spanish Springs. An all-league second team pick, Harper finished with a 25-9 record, making her the winningest pitcher at Douglas in at least the last five years. She struck out 150 . Offensively, she had three doubles and 13 RBI.


Brittany Barcellos, South Tahoe - She hit over .400 and had an on-base percentage of over .700. She was a speedy outfielder who was one of the league's best slappers. An first-team all-league pick.


Casey Pomeroy, Fallon - An all-High Desert League first team choice. Pomeroy hit .360 with 12 RBI, 27 hits and was the team's No. 1 pitcher. She finished with four home runs and among her highlights was hitting a home run off of the state's top pitcher, Spanish Springs' Mallory Darby.


Alyssa Meihack, Fallon - An all-league performer, Meihack hit .341 with 28 hits and tied a school record with seven home runs. She also had 26 RBI and a .695 slugging percentage. She did double duty as a catcher and pitcher.


Honorable mention: Cassie Vondrak, Carson; Danielle Lowe, South Tahoe; Megan Esquivel, Abby Kingman, Whittell; Frances Estrada, Nikole Whitney, Jayme King, Fernley; Sara Parsons, Fallon.
