Spot fires that forced the evacuation of Tallac Village have been extinguished and a line has been re-established between the Angora fire and the city of South Lake Tahoe. Highway 89 remains closed between Highway 50 and Emerald Bay, according to information released by fire authorities at 7:05 a.m. today. The fire spread to 3,100 acres and fire crews have a line around 44 percent of it, which is a slight improvement over Tuesday's 40 percent. The line was re-established last night, where a mandatory evacuation remains in effect for communities south of Highway 89.

Firefighters are preparing for the winds to come up this afternoon by stationing fire engines near homes to protect them. Fire officials say they expect the line to hold and hope to have the fire completely surrounded by July 3.

A public meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. at South Lake Tahoe Middle School. The El Dorado Sheriff's Department has established an evacuation re-entry hotline at 530-621-5860.
