Highway 89 is expected to close at the junction with Highway 50 at 10 a.m., according to the California Department of Forestry. Some residents of North Truckee are being allowed back in their homes by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department to assess the damage. However, mandatory evacuations are still in place for other areas. While firefighters didn't expand the line in the 3,100-acre Angora fire didn't extend the line, they did push 200-300 feet into the burn area in the hopes of widening the line before expected high winds hit this afternoon. The wider the line, the less chance there is that burning embers will allow the fire to jump to new hotspots. So far, the damage estimate to structures is $141 million. Fire investigators are seeking tips on who may have caused the blaze.
