The Topaz Lodge and Casino, a recreation destination in Douglas County, announced today it will reopen its casino and restaurant July 3, after an electrical fire led to a three month closure.
The resort, owned by Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and his son, Rob, temporarily closed in April 2007 for remodeling. Since then, the central casino has been stripped to the beams and reconstructed, while other areas received new tile, wiring and plumbing.
"We wanted to reopen a little earlier, but we're ecstatic to finally be getting back to business as usual. We have been working hard doing everything possible to get the resort up and running by summer, and we succeeded," said Rick Ross, general manager of The Topaz Lodge and Casino.
On April 3, a small fire broke out in the attic area of Topaz Lodge. Several fire departments responded quickly and had the fire under control within an hour after it was first reported. There were no injuries.
