Fire crews have built a line around 70 percent of the 3,100-acre Angora fire in South Lake Tahoe and continue to make progress despite winds of 15-20 mph.

As of the 8 p.m. Thursday update, fire activity has been light. The thick cloud of smoke which filled the Tahoe basin has dissipated and residents are beginning to return to their homes. Power crews have restored electricity to some homes along North Truckee Road.

The fire that has been burning since Sunday claimed 254 homes and other structures.

The National Weather Service is predicting that a low pressure system that has been stalled off the coast since Tuesday will finally move inland today. Wind gusts of up to 30-35 mph are expected and have prompted a red flag warning from 1 to 9 p.m. today.

Humidity is expected to drop below 15 percent and the weather service is warning fire officials to watch the weather closely.
