The Carson Valley Renegades All-Star team enjoyed a strong run through the Nevada District I Little League Renegades tournament at Swope Middle School over the last two weeks.
Carson Valley went 2-2 in pool play with a 16-2 win over South Tahoe and a 13-3 win over Sparks Centennial. The Renegades suffered a 20-10 loss to Reno National and a 6-4 setback against Washoe.
In the single-elimination bracket, Carson Valley topped Reno American East 19-4 but saw its run end with an 8-1 loss to Washoe.
Carson Valley got strong production throughout its lineup during the course of the tournament, starting with catcher Brandon Bohan, who sparkled defensively. The highlight of his tournament came picking a runner off at third in the fourth inning against Sparks Centennial. He came up with a number of clutch hits throughout the tournament and threw five brilliant innings against perennially tough Washoe.
Third baseman/reliever Matthew Elliot was a solid hitter and fielder who came in during the third inning of the elimination against Reno American East with one out and the bases loaded to strike out two batters on six pitches.
Jake Forvilly sported an on-base percentage above .500 and had an important hit in the win over Reno American East. He was noted by his coaches for his team-first attitude.
Outfielder Joey Jacobsen had two big hits in wins over South Tahoe and Reno American East.
Second baseman Cale Kynett led the team in batting average and pitched well in wins over South Tahoe and Sparks Centennial.
Shortstop Dillon Lopez helped turn two big double plays in a close game against Washoe and batted clean-up for the team. He led the squad in extra-base hits and knocked the glove off a South Tahoe pitcher with a line drive.
Outfielder Ben Nolting had important hits against South Tahoe, Sparks Centennial and Reno American East.
Outfielder Jared Rooker had a number of key hits against Sparks Centennial and Reno American East.
First baseman Luke Romero had a big double against Reno National, driving in two runs. Coaches said his positive attitude had a big effect on the team.
Center fielder Ricky Simons made a spectacular diving catch on a drive to deep right center with a runner on second to end the top of the sixth in a close game against Washoe.
Leadoff hitter Dylan Sullivan pitched a number of strong innings for the team, leading Carson Valley to wins against South Tahoe, Sparks Centennial and Reno American East.
He also played catcher, second base, third base and outfield.
Tanner Valenzuela batted over .500 at the plate with an on-base percentage of over .800. He played first base and threw a tough game against Reno National. His coaches also noted his courage and heart.
Outfielder Jacob Werth had an important hit in the win over South Tahoe, driving in two runs in the third inning. Werth distinguished himself as an encourager to his teammates, playing through injury.
