Nevada author, Dennis Cassinelli, will offer a lecture on the Great Basin Indians Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville.
Cassinelli, a Northern Nevada resident, has spent most of his life as an amateur archaeologist.
"I have always had a keen interest in archaeology and anthropology," said Cassinelli, who grew up digging up arrowheads on the Glendale Ranch in Sparks in the 1940s-50s. "Old objects dug up from past cultures and civilizations hold a special fascination for me."
Cassinelli has written two books about early Great Basin inhabitants, including "Gathering Traces of the Great Basin Indians" and "Legends of Spirit Cave."
He also created the Cassinelli-Perino Artifact Collection, a permanent display housed in the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.
He is working on a third book titled "Uncovering Archeology" and performs an annual lecture and book signing at the Gold Hill Hotel near Virginia City. Other works cited are "Making Arrows," an unpublished short story by Cassinelli and "Personal Interviews with Dennis Cassinelli."
