Douglas High freshman Hillary Sapp turned in two solid runs at Mt. Rose Saturday on the second day of the NIAA 4A State skiing championships.

Sapp finished her first run in 14th place out of 65 skiers.

With the top 15 racers skiing in reverse order for the second run, Sapp started second on a steep course with soft snow.

She improved her position and finished the day in 13th, just one-hundreth of a second behind the next fastest racer.

On the first day of competition, Sapp had a strong first run, finishing in 22nd.

On her second run, she missed a gate and had to hike back up to complete the course. The setback meant a 43rd place finish.

Truckee's Shelby Macrorie won the combined championship, South Tahoe's Justine Fergoson took second, and Truckee swept the next three places with Michelle Delumyea, Brandi Macken and Tarra Maher rounding out the top five.
