The Western Nevada CattleWomen nominate different businesses that serve beef and have chosen Sierra Nevada Trading Co. as Beef Business of 2007.

"Several members have shopped at Sierra Nevada Trading Co. and have found they have an excellent selection of cuts and that their beef steaks are delicious," said the organization's president Joy Uhart.

"Compared to other stores, they have good service, taste and choice. It's a great place to buy beef," she said. "It's nice to have a small town butcher shop in our growing Valley again."

Sierra Nevada Trading Co. uses USDA Choice Angus beef and employs three meat cutters with about 70 years combined experience.

"We take pride in this little store," said Tom Olson who has 25 years' experience as a meat cutter.

"We're different than the big boys down the street."

Having a smaller store allows the staff to give more personal service.

"We come out and talk to people instead of having a guy behind a wall," said Olson. "By word of mouth we're building a reputation. We're proud of what we do here."

The Minden Village store's owners Bill Dutra and Kevin Coleman have been invited to the CattleWomen's dinner and dance in Wellington to receive the Beef Business of the Year award on March 31.

The Western Nevada CattleWomen has members from Douglas, Lyon, Washoe, Carson, Alpine and Mono counties.

The organization was founded in 1956 and promotes the cattle industry through educational and promotional activities, such as demonstrations at Costco, lunch preparations for exhibitors at Farm City Days in Reno and Carson City and hosting a dinner, dance and auction to raise funds for agricultural scholarships.

Sierra Nevada Trading Co. is at 1681 Lucerne St. in Minden Village.
