The towns of Minden and Gardnerville will conduct a two-hour joint meeting 9 a.m. Saturday to discuss issues that affect them both. At the top of the agenda is discussion and possible action on the proposed expansion of the bear-proof container ordinance into the rest of Douglas County. However, the meat of Saturday's meeting will be a roundtable discussion on parking, potential flood impacts of Pine Nut and Buckeye creeks, economic development and redevelopment and standards for buildings and property care. The town boards meet at the CVIC Hall.

Here's an interesting fact. The Genoa Candy Dance has nearly tripled its net profit over the past 13 years. According to a spreadsheet prepared by the county for town board members, Candy Dance made $56,961.83 in 1994 and the final profit for 2006 was 166,087.06. Most of that money has come from increased booth charges, but candy sales have doubled during the same time going from $17,653 to $40,097. Despite this growth in revenue, the town doesn't seem that much more flush than it was in the '90s.

Barney's Flyfishing Ranch held a going out of business yard sale last weekend. We're not sure, but it looks like the experiment is over. Begun by Dean Johnson, who also started Barney's Drive-thru Market in the Gardnerville Ranchos, the flyfishing ranch served as a locale for the annual Casting for Recovery last summer.

On Wednesday, The Morning Report disappeared from The Record-Courier's Web site. When we put it back up after about four hours, it stayed, but I have to wonder where it went. This has happened to me before when I've mentioned the Reno Gazette-Journal in a less than favorable light. So let's try a little experiment. Perhaps, I'll just let slip that the Douglas Times, a weekly tabloid being launched by the Very Large Newspaper to the North, has a Tuesday deadline for Friday publication and that its advertising representatives are even now canvassing Douglas County businesses in search of sponsors. Let's see what happens. I've got 9:15 a.m. in The R-C betting pool.
