A new administrative building and expanded services for the Gardnerville Water Co. came one step closer to reality today when the planning commission approved a zone change, from agriculture to public facility, on a 6.36-acre parcel just east of Virginia Ranch Road in Gardnerville.
Located on what will be Muller Parkway, the parcel will also mean consolidation of the operations in the Carson Valley, according to water company engineer Mark Gonzales.
"The Public Utilities Commission and Bureau of Health Protection want us to plan for expansions to the south and east," he said. "This approval gives us ability to do that."
The measure was unanimously approved, with planning commissioners Bob Conner, Matt McKinney, Margaret Pross and Lawrence Howell present. The planning commission vote is advisory. Their recommendation will be forwarded to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners for additional consideration.
