A 41-year-old Thousand Oaks, Calif., man died Sunday in an ice diving accident in Gull Lake, in Mono County, Calif.
Mono County sheriff's Lt. Ralph Obenberger said Michael James Dahan had been in the June Lake area for several days conducting ice dive training.
On Sunday, Dahan " described as an experienced diver and dive shop owner " was diving with a partner, but the victim was not using a safety line.
The second diver, using a safety line, came up due to low air, but Dahan never came to the surface, Obenberger said.
Officers from the Mono County Sheriff's Department, Mono County Search and Rescue, Mono County Paramedics, June Lake Fire Department and the Inyo National Forest searched Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m., but Dahan could not be located.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dive Team arrived Sunday night and resumed the search early Monday with the help of several Mono County agencies.
Dahan's body was located at 5 p.m. Monday and his death was ruled accidental.
Obenberger said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause.
Dahan is survived by his wife and two children.
