Suspect to appear in court today

A 20-year-old Carson City man eluded capture on Monday after allegedly being involved in a pursuit that resulted in gunfire in Indian Hills.

Sgt. Tom Mezzetta said Tuesday that Robert Michael Hernandez has yet to turn up after he was last seen Monday morning.

Hernandez was a passenger in a 2003 Chevrolet SUV chased into Indian Hills by Washoe Tribal Police after officers reported seeing behavior that might indicate the driver was under the influence.

Fidel Fuentes, 24, is being held in Douglas County jail on charges of obstructing a peace officer, possession of stolen property and a warrant out of Carson City. He allegedly drove the SUV into a Washoe police cruiser and toward one of the officers. The officer fired three shots at the SUV in response, breaking a window.

Fuentes, who lists a Las Vegas address, is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court this morning and is being held in lieu of $35,500 bail.

Hernandez and Fuentes allegedly drove north on Vista Grande Boulevard and abandoned the vehicle and a female passenger on Princeton Avenue near the fire station. The woman was detained by authorities.

School buses picked up children in the neighborhood where the intersection of Princeton and Vista Grande was cordoned off with police tape.

Douglas deputies and Washoe Tribal Police spent the subsequent morning hours searching for the two men.

Deputies tracked blood drops from where the vehicle was abandoned and used a K-9 to look for them.

Fuentes was captured at 10:15 a.m. Monday on Granite Court after running from a garage where he was hiding.

Washoe Tribe spokeswoman Felica Archer said the tribal officers weren't injured in the incident.
