Monday was a pretty exciting day between the dragnet for Robert Hernandez in Indian Hills and a bus crash at Highway 50 and 395 involving a Johnson Lane resident.
As of 7:08 a.m. there is no word of the capture of Hernandez, wanted in connection with the ramming of a Washoe Tribal Police unit early Monday morning. Douglas County and Washoe authorities searched Indian Hills for Hernandez, 20, and Fidel Fuentes, 24, who were being sought after they bailed out of a Chevrolet SUV. Fuentes was captured at about 10:15 a.m. Monday while Hernandez remained at large throughout the day.
Johnson Lane resident John Theisen survived being hit by a bus with only minor injuries after a crash that closed southbound Highway 395 for hours. Theisen, 68, received minor injuries in the accident. A runaway bus sandwiched Theisen's pickup truck with a big rig while turning onto 395. Theisen was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he was later treated and released.
Record high temperatures are expected to hit again today. According to the National Weather Service, high pressure over the Southwest has created late spring conditions a week before spring starts. In Carson Valley, the high temperature in Minden on Monday hit 84 degrees while the temperature hit 88 degrees in Sheridan, according to The R-C's weather watchers. A special weather statement issued at 5 a.m. said to expect more of the same today. The temperature in Minden now is 39 degrees. In the Gardnerville Ranchos it is 43 degrees.
