Fidel Fuentes, 24, will appear in East Fork Justice Court this morning in connection with a pursuit and officer-involved shooting. Fuentes is being held on $35,500 bail on charges of obstruction of an officer, possession of stolen property and a $10,000 warrant out of Carson City. Fuentes is accused of being the driver of a Chevrolet SUV used to ram a Washoe Tribal Police car early Monday morning and of trying to run down a tribal police officer. The incident sparked a daylong manhunt in Indian Hills for Fuentes, who was captured about seven hours after the incident and Robert Hernandez, 20, who has yet to surface.

It appears Minden broke another record on Tuesday with a high temperature of 80 degrees, but we'll have to see what the National Weather Service in Reno says. The previous record for March 13 was set in 2005 with 76 degrees. R-C Weather Watcher Stan Kapler said he got a reading of 80 degrees. However, the weather service is only giving Minden credit for 78 degrees on Monday, still well over the record of 75, but not quite the 84 degrees read down here. In any case the Weather Service is predicting a cool-down today with the high hitting 70 today and Thursday and then climbing back into record territory on Friday. Keep in mind that it is still winter. When spring starts next week, the temperatures are supposed to drop to the low 60s.

Douglas County commissioners are meeting at Lake Tahoe on Thursday and I have to admit that the battle for the lead in this story is between the presentation by U.S. Forest Service District Ranger Gary Schiff and the presentation by the Carson Valley FFA about the use of antibiotics in livestock feed. The meeting is at 1:30 p.m. in the commissioners' new chambers inside the transportation center, 169 Highway 50 in Stateline.
