The Douglas High School softball team opened its home season with a 5-3 win over Dayton Tuesday afternoon in a nonleague game.

It marked the third win in a row dating back to last year for the Lady Tigers at home as pitcher Stephanie Harper struck out four and walked two to pick up the win.

Dayton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, getting two unearned runs, before Douglas came up with the big second inning.

The Tigers brought four runs across, getting an RBI single from Donna Judd.

Lauren Hoppe stepped up and had a monster shot to right that just missed being fair, but Judd took second and third on a passed ball. Hoppe drew a walk and then stole second, allowing Judd to score in the process.

Freshman Emily Weaver later drove in her sixth run of the season and stole two bases in the game.

Tisha Luken led the Tigers at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance to go with a stolen base. Angella Stephenson had the Tigers' only other hit on the afternoon and Mackenzie Cauley had a stolen base.

Douglas improved to 4-2 on the year and will head to Susanville for a tournament this weekend.
