The Carson Valley Trails Association is sponsoring a "Hike for Health" Children's Poster Art Contest for students in grades first through 12th. The subject of the posters is trails, nature and hiking for health. Entry forms with details about the contest have been distributed to Douglas County public schools. Contest details and an entry form are also available online at www.carsonvalleytrails.org or by calling Lucie Johnson, 783-4073. The deadline for entering a poster in the contest is March 30.
The winners of the Children's Poster Art Contest will be announced at CVTA's "Hike for Health" celebration 6-8 p.m. April 17 at the Genoa Town Hall. The first place winners in grades 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 will win backpacks filled with hiking supplies. One "best of show" $100 prize will be awarded. Every contest participant will receive a certificate of participation and all entries will be displayed at the April 17 event and at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden after April 17.
The CVTA "Hike for Health" celebration will include silent and live auctions, informative displays about current and future CVTA projects, live entertainment provided by the Martin & Vargas guitar duo and refreshments. The Carson Valley Trails Association is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. The mission of the organization is obtaining legal access to Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service trails and property for hiking, mountain biking and equestrian uses by the public.
