Accused killer Romero Galicia admitted today to waiting in the closet of a Stateline casino for his ex-girlfriend, who worked there as a housekeeper and bludgeoning her to death with a hammer. In exchange for his plea, the 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe man will not face the death penalty.
Galicia faces life in prison without parole, life with a chance of parole after 20 years, or 50 years with the possibility of parole after 20 years. Violating the temporary restraining order will could add up to five years to his sentence, but both sentences would be served simultaneously.
Nov. 19, when he allegedly killed 22-year-old Jazmin Gonzalez-Morgado, a housekeeper at the Horizon Hotel and Casino. Gonzalez-Morgado had obtained a restraining order against Galicia two months prior to her death.
The man who rented the hotel room for Vazquez Galicia is facing a misdemeanor charge in the case. Evan Garcia will appear in court April 27 for a preliminary hearing on a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to violate a restraining order.
