Sinfonia presents spring concert

Sponsored by the Carson Valley Violin School and Friends of the Carson Valley Youth Orchestra, the Carson Valley Sinfonia will present its annual spring concert Sunday in the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Avenue, Minden. The performance begins at 4 p.m. and is open to the public without admission charge.

The program will open with the "Overture to the Messiah" by Handel and will include selections from his "Water Music Suite," a movement from his "Concerto Grosso, OP. 6, No. 1" and conductor John O'Neill's transcription of Grieg's well known "Last Spring." The ensemble will also be heard in premiere performances of three other O'Neill works: "The Japanese Cricket," "Variations on The Bluetail Fly" and "The Grasshopper Song," which will be sung by Donald Baumann. Both "The Japanese Cricket" and "Last Spring" are in the process of being published and distributed nationwide by Ludwig Music Publishing Company of Cleveland, Ohio.

The Carson Valley Violin School was founded by John and Nelle O'Neill in September 1992 and offers lessons on all orchestral string instruments to students of all ages. For information on the concert or school, call 267-3495.
