A large band of snow is headed south into Carson Valley bringing with it gusty winds of up to 40 mph and up to 20 minutes of low visibility. Commuters are being urged by the National Weather Service to watch out for patchy ice or snow covered roads through 10 a.m. today.
Emergency personnel are responding to an accident in the southbound lanes of Highway 395 between Airport Road and Johnson Lane at 7:11 a.m. today. Deputies responding to the accident are calling for sand on the highway to deal with slick spots, especially Highway 88 at Centerville and 395. A red Isuzu Rodeo, a dark blue Neon are reportedly involved. A non-injury accident at Highway 88 and Kimmerling Road was reported at about 6:30 a.m. Officers are reporting a total white out on Highway 395 south. Another accident on Highway 395 was reported at 7:22 a.m.
Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 south from Gardnerville to the California state line, on Kingsbury Grade, and on Highway 88 from just south of the state line over Carson Pass. Chains are mandatory on Highway 50 over Echo Summit.
There are all sorts of non-injury accidents on highways in Reno.
Power is out to Genoa along Jacks Valley Road as light snow continues to fall in Carson Valley.
