They'll be flying around the CVIC Hall Saturday night as the Carson Valley Kiwanis host their annual Ham Bingo 7 p.m. Bingo cards are 25 cents and the money raised will go to support their many good works. In other meat related events, the Western Nevada CattleWomen are holding their dinner dance at the Smith Valley Community Center in Wellington starting 6 p.m. on Saturday. Not much to say about the weather. It will be sunny and cool through the weekend, with the highs not quite cracking 70. It will get a bit cooler on Monday, but there is no precipitation in the forecast through next Thursday. We'll see a return to warmer days by then as well. Lows will be bouncing around the freezing mark for the next few days.

Tuesday kicks off meeting week in earnest, with Gardnerville and Genoa town boards getting the ball rolling on Tuesday, Minden and the Gardnerville Ranchos meeting on Wednesday and Douglas County commissioners returning to their chairs on Thursday. I'll have more details as we get closer.

Today marks the fourth time in Carson Valley history that two weeklies have gone head to head for your attention. The Douglas Times is an attempt by the Reno Gazette-Journal to win back readers after all but abandoning the Valley for two years. It has been 65 years since the last weekly to compete with The Record-Courier folded its tent. However, unlike the previous efforts, the Douglas Times is backed by a major corporation, one of the largest newspaper companies in the world. There is no Douglas Times office in Carson Valley, but we assume there may be one some day. We take the competition seriously and hope that they do, too.
