Typically, more than 100 vintage vehicles are the main attraction at Big Mama's Show & Shine Car Show - last year 130 - with colors and types ranging from candy apple red Ford pickups to opalescent purple Corvettes and everything in between.
The Douglas County Senior Center will be hosting its seventh annual Big Mama's Show & Shine Car Show on May 12 at the Lampe Park pavilion in Gardnerville.
Check-in is from 8-10 a.m., show and shine is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and awards presentation is at 3 p.m. There will be music by Time Warp, food, vendors, lots of classic vehicles and an all-day raffle of prizes from many area businesses.
The class range is from pre-1948 to 1972 stock or modified cars and pre-1965 to 1972 stock or modified trucks. There are also classes in sports cars, special interests, street rods and "under constructions" (no tow ins). To register vehicles, stop by the senior center at 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville, or call the office at 783-6455 and have one mailed. The registration fee is $45 if postmarked by today or $50 after today. Day of the show registration will be accepted.
A craft and vendor fair is included in the event, with more than 25 booths featured this year, from custom motorcycles on display, to crafters, car-show related and local businesses. Registration forms for booths are available at the senior center. Spaces are going quickly. The $30 booth space is 10 by 10 feet. Canopy and tables are provided by vendors.
For further information on the car show and craft/vendor fair, call senior center Recreation Coordinator Linda Kyriakopoulos 783-6455.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the Douglas County Meals On Wheels Program.
