Alpine County campgrounds closing for beetle spraying

Campgrounds in Alpine and Mono counties will be closed while the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service spray for western and mountain pine beetles.

Indian Creek Reservoir's campground will be closed today while 270 trees are sprayed. The day use site, group site and boat ramp will remain open.

About 1,800 trees in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be treated between Tuesday and Friday. The Bootleg, Sonora Bridge, Leavitt Meadows and Green Creek campgrounds will be closed during that period.

Spraying in the Carson Ranger District includes the Crystal Springs, Snowshoe Springs, Kit Carson and Hope Valley campgrounds May 19-23.

According to information from the BLM and Forest Service, picnic tables will be covered during spraying and sites will be safe for campers within 12 hours of spraying.
