Easing children's fear of doctors

Taking a child to the emergency room - or even in for a routine doctor visit - can be a stressful and exhausting trip for a parent. Not only are you worried for your child's health and safety, but also for their comfort.

Children of all ages can be apprehensive of doctors, nurses and medical equipment even when a parent is there to reassure them that these people are here to help. Carson Valley Medical Center would like to help alleviate some of this anxiety by offering an opportunity to bring children to meet our team of health care professionals.

During the CVMC Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, CVMC will be conducting teddy bear exams for your children's favorite stuffed friends. The medical team will "treat" the stuffed animal by bandaging or stitching them up while explaining the process to your children. The CVMC Health and Wellness Fair will also offer many free screenings and health resources for parents.

Carson Valley Medical Center is located at the south end of Gardnerville, at 1107 Highway 395. For information, call 782-1512. No appointments necessary.
