June activities offered at the senior center

Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club is having a May dance from 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the senior center.


"The last dance was so successful, we are planning another one." says YAH President Paul Lockwood.


Music will be provided by the "Don and Nadine" musical group. Dance lessons will be available by instructor Bob Trusdale an hour before the dance at 6 p.m. for those interested. Admission is $5 per person. The Douglas County Senior Center is located at 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville in the vicinity of Sharkey's Casino. For information call 783-6455.




Hiking trip planned


A hiking trip around Tallac Village in South Lake Tahoe is being planned for Saturday. It is an area of historic buildings and recently the location of an Ann Margaret movie. There is a nature trail to the fish tunnel.


The hike is being led by well-known local hikers Esther and Ray Hildebrand.


"The hike will be very easy. No elevation gain at all since the trail is level. Bring water, lunch and good walking shoes," said Esther Hildebrand.


Hikers are asked to bring $1 for transportation. The bus will leave from the Douglas County Senior Center in Gardnerville at 8 a.m. For information call 783-6455.




Sunday bingo


Young at Heart monthly bingo is Sunday. Doors open at noon. Early bird games start at 1 p.m. and regular games at 1:30 p.m. Must be 21 years or older to play. Progressive for May is $500 on 56 numbers. The pot increases by $50 each month and 1 number if not won. The game continues for black-out for one half of the take for the special progressive game. Free coffee and snacks will be available. The snack bar will sell hot dogs and chili. For more information, call Armand or Lillian at 267-4897.




Trip to Folsom Outlet stores


A shopping bus trip to the Folsom Outlet Stores in Folsom, Calif., is planned for Monday, by the Douglas County Senior Center. The bus will leave from the center at 8:30 a.m. and return around 4 p.m. Cost for transportation is $8. Lunch will be purchased by each individual at the shopping mall. There is limited seating so make your reservations early. Should the weather be poor, the trip will be canceled, so call the center the day before for verification. Information call 783-6455.




Garden Club meets


The Green Thumb Garden Club will meet 10 a.m. Monday, in the ceramics room at the Douglas County Senior Center. Jeannee Drager will speak on "how to save money for your garden and yard decorations since these items are so costly." The meeting will be open for questions and answers afterwards. History trip planned


A history trip of Nevada is being planned by Douglas County Senior Center May 24 with a trip to the Nevada State Museum at 11 a.m. and the Nevada State Capitol at 1 p.m. Breakfast will be at the Carson Nugget paid by each individual and then the group will cross the street to the museum for the tour of that facility then down the street to the Capitol. A fee of $7 will be charged for transportation and the museum fee. The tour will leave from Douglas County Senior Center at 8:45 a.m. and return around 2:30 p.m. There is limited seating so make reservations early. Information, call 783-6455.
