The Swing for a Cure "Sharkey Begovich Memorial" Golf Tournament Board announced Tuesday that Capt. Keith Colburn, featured on The Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" series, will play in the afternoon flight of the tournament being held Sunday at the Genoa Lakes Resort Course.

The captain and crew will be available for autographs and photos prior to the 1 p.m. shotgun start.

"My dad would be so honored to know that Keith and his crew took time away from their busy schedule to play in our fundraising tournament," said Mashelle Begovich.

"Our families go back many years and Keith is very happy to help the cause. While we are always humbled at the support we receive from our community, to have support come all the way down from Alaska is awesome."

Now in its third season, The Discovery Channel "Deadliest Catch" series focuses on the dangerous profession of crabbing in the waters off the Alaskan coast.

While at sea, the crews face nearly 24-hour shifts for days at a time, in less than optimal conditions: 40-foot waves, 80-mph winds, subfreezing weather and 700-pound crab pots slamming against the deck " not to mention a nearly 100 percent injury rate.

Colburn of Redmond, Wash., has served at the helm of the Wizard for the last 14 years. A World War II-era ship that was converted into a fishing vessel in 1978, the Wizard, a perennial top five producer, is one of the largest vessels in the fleet at 155 feet in length.
