Our Douglas County 4-H Livestock Clubs attended the Nevada Junior Livestock Show to show their beef, sheep and swine on May 4-7 at the Nevada Livestock Events Center in Reno. All of our members presented their animals with great aspiration and performed exceptionally well in all of the shows and judging contests.

Most of us camp out in the parking lot with our families for the four days because we have to tend to our animals several times a day to get them cleaned up and groomed, feed and water them and keep their pens clean. It was a lot of hard work but we had a fun time.

4-H and FFA members from the whole state attend NJLS and it was fun to meet 4-Hers from across Nevada. On Saturday night there was a dance and a nice dinner and we showed our animals all day Saturday. Sunday there is the livestock auction and scholarship award winners.

In the 4-H Senior Division:

Becky Glocknitzer won a blue ribbon and fourth place in senior beef showmanship and had the reserve champion unregistered heifer.

Tim Godecke won a blue ribbon and fourth place in market sheep class. He also made the final round in showmanship.

Jamie Greer won a blue ribbon and seventh place in market swine.

Shannon Martinez won a blue ribbon and second place in her weight division for her market lamb, she had the grand champion registered breeding ewe, and placed third in senior sheep showmanship. She also showed her dairy heifer placing third in her breeding class and third in senior dairy showmanship.

Kelsey Ryan won a blue ribbon and sixth place in market sheep class.

In the 4-H intermediate division:

Cheyenne Bidart won a blue ribbon and fifth place in market sheep class and her yearling ewe placed first in its class with a fourth place in intermediate sheep showmanship.

Andrew Godecke won a blue ribbon and second place in market sheep class.

In the 4-H junior division:

Jessa Gansberg won a blue ribbon and eighth place in market sheep class and third place in junior sheep showmanship.

Bailey Gansberg won a blue ribbon and third place in market sheep class and participated in junior sheep showmanship.

Rachel Godecke won a blue ribbon and fourth place market sheep class and participated in junior sheep showmanship.

Louisa Landolt won a blue ribbon and seventh place in market sheep class and second place in junior sheep showmanship.

Anna Lekumberry won a blue ribbon and seventh place in market sheep class and third place in junior sheep showmanship.

The whole group combined and showed their market lambs in the "Pen of 5" and won fourth place. The group of yearling ewes in "Pen of 5" was shown by Cheyenne Bidart, Jessa Gansberg, Brian Hoskin, Shannon Martinez, and Kelsey Nalder and they won first place.

All of our members had a great time representing Douglas County 4-H at NJLS.

We'd like to especially thank our livestock leaders: Nita Vick, Terry Martinez, Sandy Ryan and Rich Ryan and our friends Shea and Skyler Zulian for all of their help and support with our projects.
