Fiona's Bar & Grill is open for express lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Lunch at Fiona's includes a self-serve lunch bar buffet of an assortment of salads, soup of the day, pizza, pasta, paninis and carved meat sandwiches.

Fiona's is now inside the Carson Valley Inn, Minden.

Villa Gigli reopens for summer season

Villa Gigli Trattoria/Galleria in Markleeville reopens for the season May 26. Ruggero and Gina Gigli plan a new first come, first served concept for the 15-year-old restaurant.

The restaurant will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays with no reservations required.

Customers may order homemade pasta, pizza and bread a la carte.

Villa Gigli is at 145 Hot Springs Road, on the way to Grover Hot Springs, Markleeville.

Minden protein bar maker expanding

Forward Foods, which acquired Minden-based Bluegrass Bars last fall, has plans to expand.

The company, which moved its corporate headquarters from California to Nevada in April, won approval of economic development incentives from the Nevada Commission on Economic Development last week.

Forward Foods plans to add 10 employees over the next year, up from 49, at an average hourly rate of $18.24. It also plans a capital investment of about $1.4 million.

The company said last year's gross sales were nearly $25 million. It plans to grow to $50 million in sales within the next four years, plant manager Michael Rexroth told the commission.

Forward Foods makes Detour brand food bars, sold at grocery, drug and health stores in the United States, Canada and Australia. Rexroth said the company plans to add 15 bars in four sizes and adds that the product was voted protein bar of the year by several fitness magazines.

Pita Pit open in

Carson Valley Plaza

Pita Pit has opened at 935 Topsy Lane, in the Carson Valley Plaza Shopping Center across from Best Buy.

"With the growing success of our first Pita Pit location in south Reno, it seemed only natural to expand," said Paul Dunham of Pita Management Group. "We are really excited to introduce Pita Pit to Carson City customers."

Founded in Ontario, Canada, in 1995, the Pita Pit is a quick-service restaurant allowing customers to "build a pita" with choices of grilled meat, fresh vegetables and a variety of sauces. The Pita Management Group, LLC opened its first location in Reno in 2005 and have plans to open a third location in Sparks this summer.
