In an awards ceremony May 15 at the Gardnerville Masonic Lodge, Douglas High School senior, Tim Gunsten, was presented a $1,000 Masonic Scholarship Assistance Award by Worshipful Master Tim Johnson of Carson Valley Lodge No. 33.
The scholarships will be applied to his secondary education expenses.
Tim is best described as "extremely intelligent, dedicated, and caring students who display an exemplary character."
Assisting with the presentation were school board member Sharla Hales and Superintendent of Douglas County Schools, Carol Lark.
Also in attendance were Tim's parents, Judy and Steve Gunsten and his grandparents, Gabe and Lu Hoelzel.
Tim will attend the University of Nevada, Reno, in the fall and is interested in pursuing a career in audiology.
Tierney to receive degree from Oregon
Tracy Tierney, a 2004 graduate of Douglas High School, after attending University of Oregon for just three years, will be receiving a bachelor of arts in journalism with an emphasis in public relations, on June 16.
Tracy is currently a firm director of the University of Oregon's student-run public relations agency, Allen Hall Public Relations.
She's newsletter editor-in-chief for the Public Relations Student Society of America, as well as working in Media Services for the UO Athletic Department.
Tracy is planning to work as an assistant account executive for a large public relations agency in Sacramento.
