I've been on a music hiatus and I don't like it. My much cherished callouses on my fingertips I earned from two years of playing the electric bass are going soft. I have one kid headed for high school graduation and college, senior prom, the whole 9 yards, and two children's birthdays this month.

I know what you're thinking, "Excuses, excuses!"

I know, I know! I need a good swift kick ...

Summer concerts with Eagles sound

The line-up for the free Summer Concert Series at Minden Park includes: Hotel California "A Salute to the Eagles" tonight; the Comstock Cowboys on July 13; the Jeff Jones Band on July 27; the John Jorgenson Quintet on Aug. 10; and the Michael Powers Band on Aug. 24.

The Concerts in the Park, presented by the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department, are from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with the exception of the last concert, the Michael Powers Band, which will perform from 6-8 p.m. All concerts are held at Minden Park.

The Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 will provide food and non-alcoholic beverages for sale, but many families like to bring their own picnic dinners. For more information, call the parks and recreation department at 782-9828.

Karaoke at 88 Cups

Martin Garry of Garry's Mobile Music will be the disc jockey at Minden Village's 88 Cups Pavilion today. All donations will be given to the Douglas County Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program. Music and entertainment will start at 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs, tables, food and drink or visit one of the Village's restaurants and be ready to join in or enjoy watching karaoke. Rockin' at Sharkey's

At Sharkey's Casino, 1440 Highway 395, Gardnerville, entertaining in the Horseshoe Bar tonight and Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight will be Brian Lester. Lester, who plays classic rock 'n' roll and country, is a repeat performer, welcomed back at Sharkey's.

The Bank's got tunes

David Jobe will be playing jazz and blues tunes 6:30-10:30 p.m. today at The Bank Parlor & Pub.

The Bank will be closed Saturday through Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.

The Bank now has open mic on Thursday nights, hosted by Dean Brownell. Brownell plays a variety of instruments including rhythm and lead guitar, keyboards, bass guitar and congas and is both a lead and a backup singer. Come play solo or accompanied by others. Bring your instruments.

Buckaroos features karaoke, open mic

Today, 8 p.m. to midnight, Dale Jantzen will host karaoke at Buckaroos Saloon.

Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight Ted Nagel will host karaoke.

Sunday 1-5 p.m. there will be an open mic with "Johnny Fingers" and the Coppertunes.

Wednesday from 8-11 p.m. Dale Jantzen will host karaoke.

A newcomer to the Wolf Creek Restaurant & Cutthroat Saloon in Markleeville is Dory Smith. He will be playing acoustic folk and rock 'n' roll starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Music is always Inn

Radio Rage appears Tuesday through May 27, Atomika returns May 29 through June 3 and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge live entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum. The 45-minute shows start at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.

Radio Rage offers a complete spectrum of musical styles as they perform a diversity of male and female hits from classic rock to modern rock and R&B to disco and current hip-hop/pop. Radio Rage members have performed with internationally known artists such as Michael Bolton, Rick Springfield, Sammy Hagar, Jonathan Cain, David Foster, The Divinyls and more.

Jazz entertainer David Jobe will appear Saturday night at Villa san Marcel. Live jazz music will be performed during dinner. Dinners, Italian cuisine, are served starting at 5 p.m. and entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m.

Free ukulele lessons for young musicians

This summer free ukulele lessons will be offered at the Eddy Street Book Exchange by local musician David Smith. Musicians 8 to 14 are welcome. The lessons will start in June and will be held on Sunday afternoon. There will be a $20 charge for a ukulele and music materials. The lessons will be free. Call 782-5484 for more information.

Sunday, June 24, 2:30 - 5:00 P.M. Acoustic Jam, at the Eddy Street Book Exchange, local musicians will host an acoustic jam. Evening at the Comstock

The annual charity dinner, live/silent auction and concert to benefit children with autism, An Evening on the Comstock, will take place on Aug. 4 at Buffalo Creek Ranch, 319 Jones Lane, Gardnerville.
