When Jerry Boren started selling real estate at Lake Tahoe with his father about 40 years ago, a turn-key house and lot could run about $30,000. Times have changed.

Jerry and Gayle Boren of South Lake Tahoe's Team Boren became the Boren Group with the addition of two new owners in their new Minden Village office.

"Why does someone excel in real estate when others don't? We all bring a lot of talents but Jerry has brought us together," said Gayle Boren. "He has a laid back way of selling that makes his customers comfortable and they trust him.

"We kept thinking of opening our own office to do real estate the way we want - to give better service," she said.

The four owners of Boren Group Real Estate are Jerry Boren, Nevada/California broker; Gayle Boren, real estate specialist; Mike Leonard, Nevada/California Realtor; and Cary Johnson, soon-to-be broker.

"We opened April 15 and now have 42 listings," said Jerry Boren.

"And because we have three top-notch agents in the Valley," said Gayle Boren. "They want to sell real estate like we like to sell real estate." Boren's real estate agents are Maggie Hakansson, Carroll Barr and Sheri Asay.

Boren Real Estate is an affiliate of Christie's Grand Estates international real estate.

"Their standards are extremely high so we're pleased to be part of that," said Jerry Boren. "We have all of Northern Nevada."

Another Boren Real Estate office opens July 15 on Kingsbury Grade, and the company hopes to expand to locations at Mount Rose Highway/Galena, Incline Village, Truckee and South Lake Tahoe all within the next few years.

"The reason why we opened an office in the Valley was because we had a lot of listings here - because of the impact we made in high-end real estate in basically two years," said Gayle Boren.

"Listings are based on relationships - we don't just put a sign up and walk away from it. We make friends and then sell a house."

"The Valley has a lot to offer yet is only 25 minutes away from the Lake," said Jerry Boren. "Baby boomers want to move here to enjoy the quality of life."

"We like the people here," said Gayle Boren. "It's a friendly environment and we're loving the growth in Gardnerville and in Minden Village."

Boren Group's will host a grand opening celebration of wine, music and hors d'oeuvres June 22.
