The "coolest cars" were picked from 46 hot ones at the semi-annual '50s Rockathon Car Show & Swap Meet presented by the Valley Cruisers Car Club and the Town of Gardnerville at Heritage Park on Saturday.
"The weather was awesome," said Diana Lombard, who handled the car reservations. "There was good music by Chuck Baldaukas. We ran out of hot dogs in the first hour and had to get more."
There were 15 swap meet participants, she said.
"This time we had 10 more swap spaces. We hope it continues to grow," said organizer Mike Rowe. "We like to keep it fun and simple and let people know which one we think is just the coolest car."
County officials tabulated scores with the following cars chosen as winners: Douglas County Commissioners, Larry Gloistein, 1963 Chevy convertible; Town of Gardnerville, Dick Wheaton, 1955 Ford tractor; Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Ken Draper, 1927 Ford roadster; Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Authority, Don Metters, 1969 Ford Mustang; and an unknown man named "Chris" was awarded for his 1955 Chevy pick-up by East Fork Fire & Paramedics.
