This Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Our Lady of the Valley Chapel will be holding a rummage sale and barbecue at 112775 Highway 395, just south of base housing. It is at the future site of their church and a perfect place for this event. Come support them in their efforts to make their church a reality.
Vaccination clinic
Also Saturday, you can get your pet's necessary vaccinations and license for the coming year. The location is the Walker Senior Center from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please be sure to arrive there before 11:15, so that the staff is able to move on to the next clinic in a timely way.
Health and social services information
At the Spring Fling, the Mono County Health Department and Social Services informed the public about two issues. One is the suggestion that those of us more than 60 years old should speak with our medical provider about the vaccine for shingles. It seems that this is the age group which is most affected by the condition. They also were passing out a brochure about foster parenting. It is always needed, especially with the goal of keeping our local children in the area while they are going through such a bad situation. For more information on this worthwhile service, you can call Social Services at (800) 340-5411.
This and that
-- On May 24, our local fire department attended an assembly at Antelope Elementary School, to which they brought firefighting equipment for the students to enjoy and learn about. I know the kids loved it.
-- This Friday, the Antelope Valley Fire Department will meet with young people at the high school about the new Explorer/Cadet program they are offering. This educates young people from 14 to 20 years old in the aspects of firefighting and emergency services. For additional information as to meeting times and membership in the program, you can call the department at (530) 495-2900.
-- The second round of cleanup of the local shooting range involved 12 volunteers, seven of whom were Marines. They picked up a total of 3,000 pounds of trash in their two work sessions. Please, folks, don't keep trashing it (or any other property).
-- The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3567's annual yard sale appeared to be a success over the holiday weekend, with lots of cars stopping and shopping.
-- Well, it was another wonderful combination side dish potluck and the wonderful barbecued ribs and chicken at Clint and Effie Hershey's last Sunday. This Memorial Day weekend tradition is so much fun, with the great food and company there.
-- I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend, doing (or not doing) whatever made you happy. Yesterday Mike and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. Amazing - we're still speaking to each other most of the time.
