Thirteen lucky dogs, from a group of 145 rescued canines in Gabbs that suddenly needed homes after their caregiver died, will soon be available for adoption from the Yerington Animal Shelter.

On Saturday, volunteers from the Yerington shelter drove to Gabbs and picked up 13 dogs which are being socialized and leash-trained prior to adoption.

The dogs were living at a shelter in the remote desert community of Gabbs in Nye County when their rescuer died in May, leaving them to an uncertain fate.

Survivors of the caregiver have continued to care for the dogs, but are actively seeking new homes.

Anyone interested in adopting one of the Gabbs gang is asked to call the shelter at (775) 463-6578 or call Bev Beaman at (775) 463-1842.

Pictures of the dogs are on the Yerington Animal Shelter Web page on Petfinder.com.

The shelter is located at 217 Trowbridge in Yerington and is open every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
