The Nicole Snyder Memorial Scholarship fund is offering various scholarships for Douglas High School students graduating in June 2008 who wish to pursue their studies at any level of post-secondary education, including trade schools and vocational training facilities.
A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student participating in the varsity softball program during the 2008 season and two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to one male student and one female student participating in any varsity sports program during the 2007-08 school year.
Applicants will show they are motivated by a love of sports and hard work to accomplish one's goals by submitting a one- to two-page essay describing how softball or sports play a positive role in their lives.
Several $1,000 non-sports scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate integrity, leadership, an ability to face life's challenges, determination and perseverance in overcoming adversity and a desire to contribute to society. This award also requires a one- to-two page essay on one of the five topics listed on the application.
Applicants must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Students receiving a full-tuition scholarship from another source will not be eligible.
Along with the essay, applicants must submit an application, a student transcript verifying GPA and an autobiography. Applicants for the softball/sports scholarships must also submit two letters of recommendation. Applicants for all scholarships are available in the Douglas High School scholarship office.
Completed application packages may be dropped off at the Douglas High School scholarship office or mailed to the Nicole Snyder Memorial Fund, Inc., 1407 Selkirk Circle, Gardnerville, Nev., 89460.
Application packages must be received by February 28.
