A liquor store near Stateline was robbed around 9:15 p.m. Friday, and the suspect is dead after apparently shooting himself in the head after a chase through town, according to a South Lake Tahoe police officer.

It was just one of a string of accidents and robberies that happened over the weekend.

The suspect, who was armed, made off with a small amount of cash after robbing the Tahoe Bottle Shop, according to police.

After the robbery, South Lake Tahoe police pursued a 2005 Chevy Malibu. The suspect refused to yield, police said. The Malibu crashed at Rubicon Street, but it didn't stop the suspect as he continued in the escape attempt, police said.

The suspect fled from officers westbound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The vehicle then ran off the road and came to a stop at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Julie Lane, police said.

The suspect remained inside the vehicle and was eventually found to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to police. South Lake Tahoe fire and ambulance responded to the scene but were unsuccessful in reviving him, a police officer said.

The suspect has been identified as Daniel Vorhees, also known as Daniel Lovejoy, 25, of Douglas County.

Meanwhile, two men are behind bars after allegedly robbing the occupant of a motel room at gunpoint. The incident happened at The Block motel Sunday near Stateline.

Police were able to catch the suspects within minutes of the 3 p.m. 911 call from The Block.

The victim described the suspects and the white Cadillac they were driving. Within five minutes, a South Lake Tahoe patrol officer found the vehicle stopped at the Highland Motel, with one of the suspects tossing something - believed to be a revolver - into some bushes, according to police scanner traffic. The weapon was recovered.
